9th Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains held in Paris

9th Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, organized jointly by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), OECD and the UN Group of Experts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was held. At the Forum, a panel on “Responsible Gold Markets” was also organized at Borsa İstanbul’s initiative.
9th Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, organized jointly by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), the OECD and the UN Group of Experts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was held at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris on May 4-6, 2015. The Forum discussed the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas, as well as various processes applied by the companies within the framework of ICGLR Regional Certification Mechanism. In addition to the States party to the Guidance, international organizations, mining companies, other related companies and non-governmental organizations participated in the Forum.
A panel entitled “Responsible Gold Markets” was organized at Borsa İstanbul’s initiative. The panel was participated by the representatives of gold markets from all over the world as well as exchanges where gold products are traded. The panel was moderated by Tyler Gillard, Legal Advisor and Project Head of the OECD Investment Division, and the panelists were Borsa İstanbul Precious Metals and Precious Stones Market Manager Oğuzhan Aloğlu, Director of Metals Products at CME Group Anindya Boral, General Counsel of the London Bullion Market Association Sakhila Mirza, and China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters (CCCMC) Director Sun Lihui.
Borsa İstanbul Precious Metals and Precious Stones Market Manager Oğuzhan Aloğlu gave detailed information on the role of the Market in the application of the Guidance as well as the Market’s significance, operations and responsibilities. Aloğlu also shared with the audience information about the training activities hosted by Borsa İstanbul and that the Guidance was translated into Turkish.
The other panelists informed the audience about the application of the OECD Guidance in their countries and organizations. The audience was also informed about the special importance that Turkey and Borsa İstanbul attach to harmonization with the OECD principles and institutionalization of the market. The panelists exchanged views on the efforts that will be initiated in Turkey.
