World’s First Thematic Technopark

Borsa İstanbul CEO Tuncay Dinç emphasized the project’s thematic structure focused on finance, saying, “Borsa İstanbul brings together all exchanges under a single roof, offering all its stakeholders services at global standards. Borsa İstanbul depends on its important information technology projects in order to offer its high-standard services. One such project is Finance Technopark. What differentiates the Finance Technopark from the others in Turkey is the fact that it is a “thematic” one focused on finance. As far as we are aware, it is the first in the world. The starting point of the project is the vision of Istanbul International Financial Center project and Borsa İstanbul’s role in such vision”.

Emphasizing that information technology has become the main area of competition in the finance sector in the last two decades, Dinç went on to say, “We witness how the developments in the information technology area change the business models in the finance sector and the opportunities offered. The way to gain competitive power in this area is R&D and innovation in software. In the Finance Technopark, we aim to offer priority for the companies that develop software for the finance sector and contribute to Turkey’s competitive power in this area. By bringing together companies producing software for the finance sector, we can offer a productive ecosystem for the finance sector. Establishing the Technopark in a spot at close proximity to companies active in the capital markets and banking sector will create synergy. The Technopark is within our campus, which will facilitate interaction with Borsa İstanbul and its affiliates. As a group, we lead the technology element of Istanbul Financial Center project. Within this framework, we will make a significant contribution to Istanbul Financial Center project with the Technopark”.

The Technopark will contribute to Competitive Power

Boğaziçi University President Prof. Gülay Barbarosoğlu
said that they aim to strengthen the leading role of the finance markets and institutions in the global markets as a result of the cooperation with Borsa İstanbul, adding, “With its numerous academicians and students in various academic units, specialized research centers, and focused post-graduate programs, Boğaziçi University  is a distinguished institution successfully carrying out training and research activities in the finance field. We aim to strengthen our know-how and experience in engineering, particularly financial mathematics, mathematics, information technology and software engineering, thanks to this cooperation with Borsa İstanbul, and thereby contribute to the competitive and leading role of our finance markets and institutions in the global markets. Our target is to ensure that universities, research institutions, information technology companies and financial institutions carry out research, development and innovation efforts in the same environment; exchange information and technology; and provide the required infrastructure for innovative and experienced human resources in Istanbul, which will assume an important role in the new financial architecture.  Thereby, it will be possible to convert the academic information and research potential in universities and research centers into technological products; commercialize them, and offer an appropriate environment for technology transfer; establish and improve technology-oriented companies; and allow our domestic and overseas brain power to efficiently produce financial technology. Another factor that we attach importance in the Finance Technopark is the existence of an efficient incubation center which will bring new entrepreneurs and start-ups to the sector.”
