Borsa İstanbul participates in Managing Intellectual Property in Universities Conference

Managing Intellectual Property in Universities Conference, organized by Boğaziçi University for the fifth time, was held in İstanbul on October 15-16. The Conference is one of the most important intellectual property events in Turkey, where Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President, Associate Prof. Mustafa K. Yılmaz delivered a keynote speech entitled “Borsa İstanbul: A Powerhouse of Innovation “. In his speech, Yılmaz mentioned how R&D spending, industrial design applications and patent applications evolved in Turkey from 2002 to 2014 and underlined the gap between current figures and the 2023 targets.
Emphasizing the actions taken by Borsa İstanbul to boost the growth of intellectual property and innovation, Yılmaz informed the audience about the new Borsa İstanbul initiatives like Private Market, Finans Teknopark and Borsa İstanbul - ITU partnership. Yılmaz also announced that Borsa İstanbul plans to open The Intellectual Property Rights Market which will bring the whole intellectual property ecosystem together.
Borsa İstanbul also participated in a panel entitled “Intellectual Property Rights in Financial Sector”. The panel was chaired by Evren Bükülmez, from Technology Development Foundation of Turkey. Panelists were Ömer Hızıroğlu, Partner at Diffusion Capital Partners; Orcan Çörtük, Executive Vice President at Central Registry Agency; Recep Bildik, Director of Private Market at Borsa Istanbul and Andrew Hirsch, Executive Director at International Intellectual Property Institute in Washington DC.
The event attracted more than 270 participants from universities, public sector, the business world, and non-governmental organizations.
