The OIC Exchanges Forum (OICEF)
The “Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum” (Forum) was initiated with a decision taken at the Twentieth Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) in order to launch a framework of cooperation among the OIC Exchanges. The first Forum Meeting was held in 2005 under the Secretariat of Borsa İstanbul in Türkiye.
Establishment of the Forum is a significant milestone towards strengthening cooperation among the OIC Exchanges. It aims to provide a dedicated platform and communication channel for representatives of the relevant OIC organizations and institutions in order to discuss international cooperation activities while offering participants the opportunity to share their experiences and develop joint projects.
What does the OIC Exchanges Forum Offer?
Within the scope of the OICEF Secretariat, Borsa İstanbul annually publishes the OIC Statistics Report to collate aggregate statistical information regarding OIC capital markets, releases the quarterly OICEF Newsletter to monitor significant events and developments pertaining to the OIC Exchanges. The Secretariat also organizes academic and training programs for the representatives of the Forum Members throughout the year.
The Forum also cooperates on long-term projects under Task Forces. Task Force on Precious Metals currently studies the feasibility of the BiGA (One Gram Gold) business model for OIC Gold Exchange Project to operate in a multi-national setting with the ultimate aim of facilitating gold trading among OIC Member States.
