The 14th Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum hosted by Borsa İstanbul took place online on Thursday, October 8, with the participation of 135 delegates from 24 OIC countries including 24 exchanges, 8 post-trade institutions and 13 international/sector institutions. The Forum meets annually since 2005 to improve cooperation among member organizations.
During the opening session, Mehmet Hakan Atilla, Borsa İstanbul CEO and Board Member, thanked the representatives of OIC countries for their participation and said: “In these extraordinary times we are going through, it is more important than ever that we, as practitioners and representatives of the OIC capital markets, benefit from each other's experiences and seize opportunities for cooperation. Therefore, our meeting today is very valuable and meaningful. The development of Islamic capital markets will be realized through our joint efforts and cooperation.”
Also, Nandini Sukumar, CEO of World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), Serkan Aşkar, Executive Vice President of Takasbank, Dr. Recep Bildik, Director of Borsa İstanbul International Relations, Mahmut Varlı, Expert at Borsa İstanbul International Relations, Kadir Altunok, Expert at Ziraat Asset Management, Jaspreet Duhra, Senior Director & Head of EMEA ESG Indices at S&P Dow Jones Indices, Prof. Mehmet Asutay, Islamic Political Economy & Finance at Durham University, Mahmut Aydoğmuş, Manager at Borsa İstanbul International Relations delivered speeches and presentations on projects carried out within the scope of the Forum as well as Islamic capital markets. In addition, Central Securities Depository of Iran, Pakistan Stock Exchange, International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM), Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) delivered presentations in the best practice sharing session.
About the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum
OIC Exchanges Forum was established in 2005 with the initiative of the Standing Committee of the Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) to establish the framework of cooperation between the exchanges and post-trade institutions of OIC member countries. Borsa İstanbul is the coordinator of the Forum. The Forum brings together OIC exchanges, post-trade and other relevant institutions (IIFM, IFSB, SESRIC, AAOFI, ICDT, IsDB, AFE and others) every year in Istanbul.
