The Second International Energy Investments (IEI) Turkey Conference was held in Istanbul on September 10-11, 2015. The Conference brought together numerous domestic and foreign institutions together. Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Associate Professor Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz and Business Development Unit Assistant Manager Harun Özay took part as panelist in, respectively, “Turkish Energy Market Investment Environment and International Dynamics”, and “Structure of and Expectations from the Turkish Electricity Market and EPİAŞ: Role of Financial Instruments in the Liberal Energy Market”.
In his speech, Associate Professor Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz said that energy companies finance their investments predominantly through long term loans, and added, due to the saturation in this field, the importance of the capital markets and public offerings for improving the financial ratios of companies is more emphasized. Referring to the Listing Directive which will become effective as of the date that the new trading system will be launched, Yılmaz expressed that the listing requirements are alleviated. Yılmaz also said that companies seeking finance without going public can make use of alternative solutions such as Offerings Market for Qualified Investors, and Private Market. The panel was chaired by Damnus Enerji ve Yatırım CEO Nusret Cömert, and the panelists were Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Money Policy Board member Prof. Dr. Ahmet Faruk Aysan, Natixis Turkey Country Manager Dr. Rıza Kadılar and ELDER (Electricity Distribution Services Association) Secretary General Uğur Yüksel.
Borsa İstanbul Business Development Unit Assistant Manager Harun Özay talked about the features of the base load electricity contracts traded on Borsa İstanbul Derivatives Market (VIOP), and emphasized the advantages that Borsa İstanbul offers to market participants, including fair and easy access to the market, real time risk management, fast and reliable trading system and central settlement.
