On March 6, 2015, Borsa İstanbul and Montenegro Stock Exchange co-organized a roadshow program to introduce prospective Montenegrin companies to Turkish investors, as part of its Listingİstanbul promotion events series. The event which took place at the Borsa Istanbul headquarters attended by Montenegrin companies, Turkish investment houses and Montenegro capital market authorities.
The event participants first attended a bell ceremony that was held at Borsa İstanbul in cooperation with United Nations Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Unit (UN Women), UN Global Compact, and Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative (SSE) in order to raise awareness on gender equality and empower women in economy. After the ceremony, all participants convened in a conference setting where the official program agenda was initiated with the opening speech of Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Dr. Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz, followed by a presentation of Borsa İstanbul Marketing and Sales Director Serhat Görgün. In their concurrent addresses, Dr. Yılmaz and Mr. Görgün provided their insights as to what Borsa İstanbul may offer to Montenegrin companies and to Balkan Region in general with its ample liquidity, state-of-the art trading technology and large investor base.
Afterwards, Turkish investment houses’ representatives took stage delivering subsequent presentations providing detailed information about the key dynamics of Turkish capital markets, comparative facts and figures about Borsa İstanbul markets, and the services their respective institutions may offer to Montenegrin companies in terms of funding, capital resources allocation and capital markets instruments offerings.
Following the investment houses’ presentations, the CEO of the Montenegro Stock Exchange Mr. Gojko Maksimovic delivered a presentation providing key facts and figures about the Montenegro economy in general, and the investment climate in Montenegro. Mr. Maksimovic’s presentation was succeeded by the speech of the Deputy Chairman of the Montenegro SEC Mr. Amir Nurkovic, who further provided details about the capital markets in Montenegro and his institution’s role in the country.
The event continued with the subsequent presentations from the executives of Montenegrin companies introducing their companies to the attendants. As the presentations were concluded a networking session was carried out to facilitate business connections between the Turkish investment houses and Montenegrin companies, where several possible avenues of collaboration were explored including the alternatives of listing capital markets instruments in Borsa İstanbul markets.
During the event, Mr. Görgün stated “a robust financial market is crucial in addressing the capital requirements of companies and matching the expectations of their executives in regards to valuations. The right valuation could only be achieved with the existence of ample liquidity and diversified investor base, which in return making it possible for companies to see the rewards and positive reflections of their commercial achievements in the financial arena via increased valuations and profitability. Within this context, Borsa İstanbul have the potential to offer best of both worlds not only for Montenegro but also for the Balkan region as a whole”.
The event concluded with a luncheon reception, where the event participants had further space to continue networking and exchange information. “Montenegro Stock Exchange and Borsa İstanbul already have strong ties since Borsa İstanbul is among the shareholders of our exchange. Therefore, collaboration at a high level in the listing business is not only seen beneficial, but also essential for both our exchanges.” was the comment of Mr. Maksimovic, who also expressed his sincere contendness in co-organizing the event.
