The companies that will be included in BIST Sustainability Index, consisting of companies traded on Borsa İstanbul and perform well in terms of sustainability have been determined for the term November 2015- October 2016. Accordingly, 29 of the companies included in BIST 50 Index for the January-March 2015 period will be included in BIST Sustainability Index.

Last year, BIST Sustainability Index companies were determined from among the companies included in BIST 30 Index for the term January-March 2014, and 15 companies qualifying for sustainability criteria were included in the Sustainability Index.15 companies included in the Index last year maintained their place this year, while 14 new companies were added.

The Index offers companies the opportunity to compare their corporate sustainability performance on a local and global level. The Index provides companies a performance evaluation instrument for improvement and determining new targets, and therefore to improve their corporate transparency, accountability, and risk management capability regarding sustainability issues. The Index also offers an instrument by which investors can differentiates companies that adopt corporate social responsibility principles.

The Index aims to contribute to strengthening the understanding, information and application of sustainability in Turkey, particularly among Borsa İstanbul companies.

The companies were evaluated by the Ethical Investment Research Services (EIRIS) on the basis of their publicly disclosed information and those fulfilling the minimum criteria determined by Borsa İstanbul were included in the Sustainability Index.
