Symposium on Improving Economic Relations between Turkey and Pakistan

Symposium on Improving Economic Relations between Turkey and Pakistan, organized by the Economic Research Foundation, was held at Lahore Pearl Continental Hotel on December 7, 2015.

The symposium was organized in partnership with Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) with the contributions of Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Halkbank, Borsa İstanbul and Zorlu Energy Group. The symposium attracted great interest from the bureaucrats and scientists of the two countries, as well as Turkish businessmen investing in Pakistan and Pakistani businessmen.

The symposium discussed the steps that can be taken in order to improve the economic relations between Turkey and Pakistan as well as the impediments against such steps. Economic Research Foundation Chairman Prof. Dr. Ahmet İncekara, PBIT CEO Amena Cheema, Borsa İstanbul Executive Vice President Mustafa Kemal Yılmaz, Halkbank CEO Ali Fuat Taşkesenlioğlu, PBIT  Chairman Abdul Basit, Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Babür Girgin and Republic of Turkey Ministry of Economy Deputy Undersecretary Hüsnü Dilemre delivered speeches in the opening panel.

Later, speakers also spoke on subjects like studies on the improvement of foreign investment and capital in Pakistan, future of economic relations between Turkey and Pakistan, role of business organisations in the development of economic relations, preparation of investment projects within two countries barriers and possible solutions.
