26 September 2014 - 17:20

A ground breaking ceremony has been held for Borsa İstanbul Finance and Technology Campus, which will bring together Borsa İstanbul, MKK (Central Registry Agency) and Takasbank under a single roof as part of İstanbul International Financial center project

At the ceremony, Borsa İstanbul Chairman & CEO Dr. İbrahim M. Turhan said, “We are working to make Borsa İstanbul a center of excellence. Within this framework, we will locate MKK and Takasbank in the same campus. In addition to the Primary Data Center, we will build a Secondary Data Center. We are also building a power center which will ensure that all technical operations, in addition to the financial operations, are carried out uninterruptedly. This work will be completed in August 2015 and we will continue to contribute to the Turkish economy”.

A leading organization of İstanbul International Financial Center project, Borsa İstanbul brings together MKK (Central Registry Agency) and Takasbank within Borsa İstanbul Finance and Technology Campus Project.

Borsa İstanbul Finance and Technology Campus Project will have a covered area of 36,500 square meters. The ground breaking ceremony was held on September 26, 2014 with the participation of the Justice and Development Party Kütahya member of the Parliament and the Grand National Assembly Public Economic Enterprises Commission Chairman Hasan Fehmi Kinay, Borsa İstanbul Chairman & CEO İbrahim M. Turhan, and Takasbank CEO and MKK Chairman Murat Ulus.

Borsa İstanbul Chairman & CEO İbrahim M. Turhan started his speech expressing his best wishes for Borsa İstanbul Finance and Technology Campus to be beneficial for the Turkish economy.

Turhan said Borsa İstanbul Finance and Technology Campus project actually came into the agenda in the 1970’s, while the earthquake in 1999 made it an obligation, and went on to say,

“When I assumed this job, I wanted to add some meaning to this obligatory renovation. Therefore, we will locate MKK and Takasbank in the campus to be built. We will build offices for MKK’s 250 staff and Takasbank’s 300 staff.

Furthermore, in consideration of the demand, we have seen that the Primary Data Center we launched last May will remain insufficient and therefore we will build a Secondary Data Center with a covered area of 3,600 square meters under the A block that we will build. We will establish a financial center which will locate both investment institutions and the information technology centers of other exchanges.

From the very beginning, Borsa İstanbul has attached great importance to sustainability, and we know that it actually means uninterrupted operation. Therefore, the power center that we will build within the campus will ensure that the data centers, the block, automation center, and all technical requirements of the campus will be operating on a fully automated basis. With the power center, we aim at ensuring minimum interruption. Thanks to the power center, the Primary and Secondary Data Centers will have a 7MW power.

We are working on making Borsa İstanbul a center of excellence. All of these operations will be completed in cooperation with Haldız İnşaat, which operates very skillfully. Together, we will complete this work in 400 days, that is, in August 2015.
