A bell ringing ceremony was organized at Borsa istanbul’s headquarters in İstinye on the occasion of the launch of Borsa İstanbul, a prominent project of the Turkish financial world.
Hosted by Borsa İstanbul Chairman & CEO İbrahim M. Turhan, the ceremony was participated by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış, İstanbul Governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, Capital Markets Board of Turkey Chairman Vahdettin Ertaş, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, and representatives of companies traded on Borsa İstanbul and Borsa İstanbul members.
Prior to the ceremony, the guests viewed the exhibition entitled “Turkish Capital Markets from the Ottoman Era to the Republic”.
Borsa İstanbul was officially launched as Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rang the bell.
As Prime Minister Erdoğan rang the bell, flags of Borsa İstanbul A.Ş. started to flaunt on the Bosphorous and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges, uniting Europe and Asia.
In his speech, Borsa İstanbul Chairman & CEO İbrahim M. Turhan said that they are acting in accordance with a strategic plan in order to ensure that the Turkish capital markets grow to a size reflecting the recent performance of the Turkish economy.
İbrahim M. Turhan went on to say that, with Borsa İstanbul, they aim to achieve vertical and horizontal consolidation in the Turkish capital markets, and added, “the final target towards this aim is to allow the investors to access all financial assets through a single Exchange, a single technological platform, and a single investor, settlement and custody account”.
İbrahim Turhan also expressed that with the new company Borsa İstanbul, the technological infrastructure will be strengthened to match the trading and order processing time spans of world exchanges, product diversity and depth will be achieved through encouraging initial public offerings and issuers, while both the awareness level and number of investors will be further developed and institutional investors will be encouraged.
İbrahim M. Turhan said that they will make İstanbul a regional financial center through cooperating with its neighboring exchanges and other emerging markets.
To commemorate the occasion, İbrahim M. Turhan presented a crystal bell with the logo of Borsa İstanbul to Prime Minister Erdoğan.
